The Great, The Modern and The Ancient

I had an early start at a site near The Aldwych this morning but by 9am I was walking back along the Thames to Embankment to get the Northern Line to Clapham.

In that short distance the Great, the Modern and the Ancient were all seen.

The Great: Isambard Kingdom Brunel

The Modern: a row of Boris Bikes in their docking stations

The correct name, of course, is the ‘Barclay’s London Cycle Scheme’ but 'Boris Bikes' is much more descriptive.

The Ancient: Cleopatra’s Needle and a not so ancient (Victorian) Sphinx.
