I had to go to Lingfield this morning to get a bucket for wine making and took the opertunity to vist the jail. This is actualy St Peters Cross and was built in 1473 to designate the boundary of two manors. Wording on a plaque says 'the cage for the detention of petty offenders added in 1773 was last used in 1882 to detain poachers'.
There are some wonderful timber framed buildings around the church.
This building is actually Lingfield's Library.
