The Big Pond Clearout

The pond; too full with lots of duckweed.

Helper Number 1

Helper Number 2

This was the fun bit...I don't think

Much to my helper's disappointment I didn't fall in.

Ever helpful Skye...

She couldn't resist a little drink.

After all that hard work all we had to show for it was a lot of muddy water - hopefully we will see the benifit next year.

Pond Life - Toad spawn or Frog spawn

Frog spawn or toad spawn - we have both in the pond but which is which?

Frog spawn is the one usually found in large clumps like this. There can be up to a few thousand eggs in a clump.

Toads however lay their eggs in chains, about 2 metres long, round water plants.

Skye was carefully watching me while I was taking the photos.

Rusty Duck was also keeping an eye on me.

Pond Day

Spring has finally arrived so its time to clean out the ponds. The goldfish were quite happy – well those that survived the winter: we think a few have gone awol.

The wildlife pond is full of blanket weed, hence the clear out.

Its amazing what you can find if you look closely – this is a dragonfly larva (by a snail).

These frogs have also decided spring is in the air!
