Happy the man

Just when you don't expect it you come across a poem and poet you've never heard of - Sophie Dahl in a ccoking programme quoted from John Dryden

Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.
Be fair or foul or rain or shine
The joys I have possessed, in spite of fate, are mine.
Not Heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.

John Dryden,(1631 - 1700), was a dramatist & poet and British poet laureate from 1668 to 1688.

A quote from him I also like,

'They think to little who talk to much'
